I was in New York for a conference last week, and I ran into a girl wearing a
big, dorky (in a cool way), very intriguing watch which turned out to be a Seiko
AirPro. I'd never seen one before, and when she told me she'd bought it in Japan,
my first thought was that it was a GSM mobile phone watch that had somehow slipped
passed my Japanese wrist technology radar. But instead of being a speaker or a microphone,
the big contraption below the face is actually a pump which
can be used to inflate a small chamber under the case to make the watch fit snuggly
against your wrist,buy wholesale designer handbags, kind of like the old Nike and Reebok basketball shoes. I'm
not exactly sure why it's useful (the girl wearing it was a designer, and I think
she was more attracted to its unique looks than its functionality), but I suppose
if you were running, or playing tennis, or otherwise engaged in the type of activity
that would send your watch bouncing up and down your arm, it might be nice to cinch
it down by pumping a little air into it.
I can't explain why, but for some reason, I liked the watch enough to do a bit
of research. I don't know if Seiko is still making the AirPro, but
I do know for a fact you won't find one at your local authorized Seiko retailer.
I found references to the Seiko AirPro as early at August of 1999, so we're definitely
talking vintage technology here. I even found references to a version which
actually spoke the time which I'm sure wouldn't get old for your co-workers and cube-mates
at all.

My last Yema would be best described as awesome; it was a treat to wear, and definitely designed with a keen attention to detail. So how does a newer Yema compare?
The Yema 310 diver is a thoughtful and throughly useful interpretation of the modern digital dive watch. As with most dive watches these days, the Yema is large — 47mm across,yachtmaster replica, and 15.5mm tall. It’s not especially heavy (I wore it on the included rubber strap), but it will block most sleeves and cuffs. The screen is divided into a large area at the top and a lower area for additional info and current menu selection. There are four pushers enabling the feature select, stop/start/reset, and the EL backlight.
The screen is a reverse LCD with a slight greenish hue. The screen’s contrast is very good,replica watch wholesale, but not at all angles as sometimes it appears washed out. Feature controls are dead simple; the screen tells you what function you are dealing with, and buttons on the right side of the case handle starting and stopping the measure. On the main time screen, you can view the date, running seconds, and even the current temperature (this feature is likely more accurate while submerged as the temp of my wrist seemed to add a few degrees to the reading — a common problem with digital thermometers built into watches). The Yema 310 Diver comes fitted to the steel bracelet, and Yema includes a very nice fitted rubber strap in the box. After having a fair amount of trouble sizing the folded steel bracelet, I moved the Yema to the included rubber strap, which is excellent. I highly recommend the rubber strap over the bracelet which is very comparable to the bracelets included with some entry level G-Shocks; its not solid steel, so it rattles, and it uses folded steel end-links as opposed to the far superior solid variety.
I should mention that while this Yema diver includes a dive recorder, I was unable to test it as I had no opportunity to dive with the watch.

I think I am in love, again. There isn't much "new" in this new watch from Montblanc's Villeret location manufacture - but it is a beautiful thing. This is going to be a top-of-the-line dream watch for many. Totally hand-made movement, world-class finishing and the romantic Minerva spirit that Montblanc was lucky enough to acquire. Checking it out for myself I can confirm it is a lovely piece -though intentionally made for smaller wrists.
The watch is the new for 2011 Montblanc Collection Villeret 1858 Vintage Pulsographe. Using the existing in-house calibre MB13-21 manually wound column wheel chronograph movement with 60 hours of power reserve. The movement is product of generations of knowledge - so to say it is an existing design might be a good thing. Like I said, the guys (and girls) at Villeret sure know how to make this movement pretty. It is a monopusher style chronograph movement - so note the single pusher above the crown.
Available in 18k red or white gold, the watch has two available dials. My favorite is the above red gold and black with the red accent, but there is also a white dial to match the white gold case. The dial is gorgeous being pristine in detail and done in grand feu enamel. The indicators on the dial are fantastic and very functional. This timepiece design does not mess around trying to be a "mere luxury item." It is a high-end chronograph built with a vintage flavor in mind. The irony is that pulsometer (or pulsographe) watches started as relatively utilitarian items - helping medics on the battlefield take the pulse of soldiers. The watches then became popular for doctors and nurses. The chronograph scale is modified to tell the pulse based on starting the chronograph counting (in this case 30) heart beats, and then stopping the chronograph to read the pulse rate.
Only well-to-do doctors who didn't get their hands dirty much would have invested in solid gold watches of this style. So perhaps today this will be an ultimate status symbol for the medical professional who has it all. One issue I personally have with the watch is the size. While at 39mm wide, it isn't tiny, it is the smallest Villeret collection chronograph Montblanc has made. They justify this in their words, and make the target demographic really clear by saying, "the 39 mm case will no doubt also appeal to ladies and to Asian gents, whose wrists are often slimmer than those of Western men." That is the first time I have seen a brand just go out and say it. Way to go Montblanc for not beating around the bush.
Other Montblanc Villeret collection chronographs can be much larger,replica and watch, with sizes going up past 45mm I think. Shame that the Vintage Pulsograph isn't offered in a larger size as it is such a gorgeous timepieces design-wise. Plus, the functional design and proportions on the dial are perfect. Don't forget that for these high-end pieces, Montblanc uses a mother-of-pearl Montblanc star in the crown.
